I am grateful that I have never been plagued by headaches. However, I have many friends, family and clients who have issues with headaches, and I know how debilitating they can be. As a fan of all things natural, I have done lots of research on natural alternatives to OTC pain relievers and was excited to see that one very simple remedy actually involves soaking your feet to help soothe your head. How To Make A Headache Relief Foot Soak
Fill a basin, sink or tub with hot water . Place your bare feet into the hot water and let them soak for 20 minute. The heat will draw the blood to your feet, easing the pressure on the blood-vessels in your head. If the headache is extreme, it has been said that adding hot mustard powder can make the soak even more effective.
While your feet are soaking place an ice pack on your forehead or your neck to draw the blood away from this area. Be sure to place a paper towel or towel between the ice pack and your skin to ensure there is no damage to the skin from direct contact with the cold.
After 20 minutes of soaking in the hot water, rinse your feet in cold water, then dry them and lay down for 20 more minutes to allow the muscles to continue to relax.

Migraines run in my family. My father had them, and my older brother started getting them when he was in college, so it wasnt a big shock when I did too. The difference is that both of them grew out of their migraines. I just keep growing into mine. I had always gone to a neurologist because I have ADD, so that doctor was the first I turned to for migraine help. Medications have helped me a lot over the last 15 years or so, but theyre not enough. Countless doctors have told me theyre going to figure out my migraines, but no doctor ever has.
You name it, Ive tried it: homeopathic remedies, allergy testing, a gluten-free diet, essential oils, an herbalist. Ive had MRIs and gone to headache specialists galore. Every doctor starts by asking me to keep a headache diary and to write down everything I eat. I want to throw the notebook at them. Ive done all those things. Ive done it all, and Ive never had any real relief.

When a migraine strikes, I take my medication right away, and if Im home, I take a really hot bath while resting an ice pack on my neck. Sometimes a Coke helps me feel better, but not always. Some people can sleep off the pain, but thats not what happens to me. If Im able to fall asleep through the pain, Ill wake up with it.
